Our friend and IUF Senior Fellow, Joel Bucher, died of a heart attack on November 14, 2009 in his apartment in Odessa, Ukraine. Joel was based in IUF's Berlin office until 2007, and then moved to Odessa in search of entrepreneurial opportunities. In Odessa, Joel successfully started his own companies with his close friend and business partner. Joel was a sharp thinker, a talented writer and speaker, an outstanding and consistent advocate of liberty. However, what characterised him most was his warmth, his openness, his idealism, and his free and adventurous spirit. He will be dearly missed by his friends at the Institute for Free Enterprise Berlin.
We will continue on the path he helped to shape.
